Ensuring Quality for the “Internet of Things”

Monday, February 12, 2018 -
6:00pm to 7:30pm

These are exciting times for tech-driven integration. The Internet of Things is in fact taking over the world in both concept and practice, perpetually changing the way industries work together.

What is Internet of Things?
We live in complicated times governed by the interconnectivity of processes, schedules, tasks, and systems. Activities are constantly monitored, analyzed, and calibrated to maximize efficiency. But what does all this connectedness and integration amount to? In short -- the Internet of Things (IoT), which we can think of as the intelligent approach to connect devices, integrate systems, and improve networks by leveraging and mining data gathered from reporting tools and sensors in physical objects and machines.

You definitely do not want to miss this remarkable and career changing presentation from one of our industry experts on Ensuring Quality for the “Internet of Things”

Please join us on Monday, February 12th from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the Shay Realty, in the 4S Commons Town Center. (There is plenty of free parking anywhere in the shopping complex). We will be providing food and drinks and an excellent oppportunity to network and get to know more people within this amazing industry.

Ensuring Quality for the “Internet of Things”

Bringing order and Reliability to the chaos of communication between devices.

By Michael Scofield, M.B.A.
Assistant Professor, Loma Linda University

The quality of any business or industrial process outcomes depend upon three major foundations:

  1. Quality and reliability of hardware (and physical network) supporting it.
  2. Quality of design of the process and decision rules.  This includes anticipating all contingencies which would influence a decision made independent of human judgment and involvement.
  3. Quality of the data at capture, and quality of definition and clarity of data conveyed between devices.

Data is central to the “internet of things”. All data communicated between devices has architecture and requires rigorous design and definition. Good design considers relationships among devices, specific business-related transactions, the content of messages, and the logic in automated decision-making. Care must be taken when replacing human awareness and judgement with software logic.
